Camp Chatuga is a small, private independent camp for boys and girls
ages 6 - 16 with traditional summer camp activities, including horseback,
waterskiing, swimming, crafts, sports and more. About 45-50 staff members
work each summer, most for the entire eight weeks of camp plus
one week of staff training.

Chatuga has specific regulations which safeguard the welfare of campers
and staff. Chatuga is a
unique working environment in that it is a 24-hour, 7-days-a-week
commitment that is mentally and physically challenging, but unbelievably
rewarding. We have about a 50% return rate for staff. The administration
takes a personal interest in each staff member. If you work at
Chatuga, you become a member of the family!

STAFF POSITIONS All staff members are age 19 or older, or have
completed a year of college. They must support the camp philosophy of
a belief in God and the Ten Commandments as a basis for morality. Chatuga salaries compare favorably with other
camps. Salaries are for eight weeks of work, plus staff attend one
week of staff training. (Contracts are usually from the 1st week in June
through the 1st week in August.) Staff members do not have to work
the entire summer, but must attend staff training (camp moms and nurses
who attend for one session come one day before their session for training).
Salaries will be pro-rated. Salaries go up based on skills, education,
experience, and certifications. International staff are paid according
to their agency's policy. Other compensation for all staff includes free
room & board, certifications earned in staff training, regular time
off, a staff t-shirt, admission for trips out of camp, and optional
laundry. Staff are not required to be college students
or graduates; experience in the work force may be equally valuable. College credit can be earned for your work; find
out what your school offers, including internships, and we'll work with
you.
Head Counselor:
Counseling experience preferred, with programming and supervisory skills.
Minimum age: 21 or Chatuga experience.
Counselor: Willingness to work and live
with campers, work with program area based on your interests and skills.
Minimum age 19 or one year of college.
Camp "Mom": Mothering, empathizing,
and nurturing skills applied to entire camp community! Runs the camp
store. Helps supervise younger campers. Usually works one session (come
one day early for staff training). Minimum age: 21.
Dining Hall Supervisor: Supervisory
skills and Interest in food service. Assistant to head chef. Can work
for shorter sessions. Minimum age: 21.
Waterfront Supervisor: Must be currently
certified in Red Cross Lifeguarding, preferably with WSI or other swimming
instructor certification. Skilled in supervising personnel. Minimum
age: 21, or equivalent experience.
Horseback Supervisor: Thorough knowledge
of horse and tack care plus experience in teaching Western riding; skill
in supervising personnel. Minimum age: 21 or equivalent experience.
Outdoor Program Supervisor: Skilled
in backpacking, planning and leading outdoor overnight trips. Minimum
age: 21 or equivalent experience.
Camp Nurse/Doctor: Current MD, DO, RN,
RNP, LPN, EMT or certified athletic trainer. Responsible for running
health center and overseeing camp health regulations. Usually works
1 session. Minimum age: 21.
