The success of Chatuga lies in its leadership. We invest in caring,
competent, mature staff. We have an experienced core staff, many of
whom have or are seeking education degrees. We hire new staff each
summer who bring fresh, exciting ideas; we also have international
staff who share their unique cultures.
Chatuga is proud of our camper-to-staff
ratio of less than 4 to1. Staff attend an intensive pre-camp
training and safety orientation. They are certified in American Red
Cross First Aid and CPR as well as the Chatuga water safety course.
Many become ARC lifeguard certified. Staff also learn Chatuga routine,
ethics, and how to work and play with each unique camper.
Chatuga keeps cabin groups small (4 - 8
campers), so each camper gets the personal attention they deserve.
Counselors live right in the cabins with their group. Every employee at
Camp Chatuga has undergone a criminal background check.
Directors Angela Sullivan, Lucy Barnett and Rick Moxley

*Kelly Gordon Moxley, wife of Rick and sister of
Lucy and Angela, was killed on March 5, 2005, in a two-car collision
while visiting friends in NC. Kelly was instrumental in restructuring
Chatuga's program in the mid-80s. Her vision and leadership helped
Chatuga evolve into the great camp experience it is today. A fund has
been established in her name to grant camperships to children who
cannot afford to come to camp.
Chatuga depends on some special people to keep camp running.
